CARSA Community Open House - May 2 & 3
On May 2 & 3 from 9am to 6pm, join Vikes Athletics, Recreation and CanAssist for the CARSA Open House Weekend celebration. For two action filled days, we’ll be opening up the facility and you can be the ‘First in’ to experience the newest recreation facility in the Capital Region. Join us for an engaging tour, food, prize draws and try the facility for FREE! With more than 190,000 square feet of space, there’s so much waiting for you to discover in CARSA. Spring and Summer programs are open for registration!
Our spring and summer program registration is open including Health and Fitness, Aquatics, Recreation classes and Intramurals. Register online or visit us at the Ian Stewart Complex or McKinnon Gym.
Check out some of the new programs we are offering!
- Youth Orientation - Fitness Weight Centre (ages 14-15)
Our vibrant trainers will welcome youth to the facility with a tour, and then introduce them on how to safely and effectively use equipment in the Fitness Weight Centre.
- Outdoor Bootcamp
Challenge your body and reach your summer goals in a fun, refreshing outdoor setting 2x a week!
- Detox Yoga Workshop
Through breath work, deep twists, and compression we will work to create space in the body, the breath and the mind. Be prepared to sweat!
- Core Essentials
This mat based class utilizes props and body weight exercises to cultivate deep core strength.

Vikes Athletics and Recreation is relocating to CARSA over the month of April. We will do our best to minimize impact to students, our colleagues, and the community.
Our offices will be closed and there will be some disruption to services on the following dates:
MCK Offices Moving – Wednesday/Thursday, April 8/9
ISC Offices Moving – Tuesday/Wednesday, April 13/14
ISC Fitness Weight Centre – Closed on Tuesday, April 21 to allow for the transition to CARSA
Sports Injury and Physiotherapy Clinics – Closed April 27-May 3, reopening in CARSA May 4
CARSA Membership information
In May 2015, the Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA) opens. CARSA is a new, state-of-the-art recreation and athletics facility that conveniently brings UVic athletics and recreation services to the heart of the campus, right across from McKinnon Gym. Vikes Recreation will offer memberships for sale starting March 2 for students and Alumni, Staff & Faculty and the greater Victoria community. Find your fit with one of our memberships!

Vikes Recreation is your campus starting point for fun, fitness and recreation. We provide specific programming designed to meet the needs of students, informal and drop-in recreation opportunities and great student events throughout the year.
Find out how you can take advantage of our facilities and programs. Stay or get fit and healthy, socialize with and make new friends, & engage in healthy competition. To participate in Vikes Recreation activities, programs, and facilities, UVic students can register online or visit the Vikes Recreation office at the Ian Stewart Complex.
Work and work-out all in one place! Vikes Recreation offers excellent programs for UVic Staff and Faculty. A variety of classes are offered during the workday (early morning, lunch hour and evening) to meet the needs of UVic faculty/staff.
The department has membership plans and programming designed specifically for Faculty and Staff. Come work out, learn a new skill, bring your family and enjoy all the facilities and services we have to offer.

Vikes Recreation provides a variety of programs and services to the public and community groups including sports camps, lessons and drop-in leisure. These programs and services promote spirit and pride throughout the community and provide outreach opportunities to the Capital Region.
UVic Alumni Card holders (associate alumni excluded) are eligible for reduced rates on Vikes Recreation base memberships. There are add-on fees for programs, leagues and the fitness weight centre.
